Exploring England with Jon Clifton

This week, Jon Clifton takes us on a trip around England with his latest collection.

Castle Acre is a standout in this week’s collection. Filmed on a bright clear autumnal day, there are a few nice little rollers making it perfect for a little tempo session.

Find all these rides under NEW in the FulGaz app or by searching CLIFTON in FulGaz.

CASTLE ACRE

Starting on the river Nar in Castle Acre, a beautiful village steeped in history. This castle was built just after the Norman Conquest in 1085 and a well-preserved Priory was built not long after in 1090, even its town walls are a set of ruined medieval defences with pretty little shops and several cafes serving afternoon teas all set the scene. Following the Nar Valley through West Lexham and Litcham we then head north through Tittleshall to finish the ride at Whissonsett.

THE LINCOLNSHIRE FENS

A blustery ride starts at Digby which sits in the Vale of Digby Beck. From here we cycle through the villages of Rowston, Timberland and Martin where we then drop on to the flat Lincolnshire Fens and head to the River Witham and follow its course to Dogdike. Cycling into a strong headwind, you will find yourself faster than 1x. Keep a watch and ear out for the Typhoons overhead!

THE BEDFORD LEVELS

The Fens or Fenland is a large area in the east of England. Most of the fens were drained in the 1700s and are now a flat, dry, low-lying area used for agriculture with many drainage channels and man-made rivers. This is a cold mid-winter ride around the Bedford Levels area of the Cambridgeshire Fens starting at Pondersbridge and following several dykes, the main one being the Whittlesey Dyke and on through Turves to finish at the small track to West Fen Farm on the course of the old River Nene.
