BRITTANY VILLAGES
Setting out from the old medieval cobbled streets of the extraordinarily beautiful Rochefort-en-Terre, a listed Plus Beaux Village, this short ride passes through typical rolling Breton countryside. Filmed in the early evening on a late Spring day, it ends on a small bridge adorned with lilac-coloured Wisteria flowers.

The ride starts in Collonges-la-Rouge, a remarkable medieval village built from local red limestone. After a short climb through the village and onto the small market town of Meyssac, the ride passes through wonderful open countryside and then follows the Dordogne under limestone cliffs to a beautifully picturesque finish at Creysse.

The Canal du Midi was built in the 17th century to link the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, and is now a favourite destination for touring cyclists. This stretch takes us from Moissac visiting the 11th Century Abbey before riding the canal towpath, then through countryside to a short climb to the picturesque Les Plus Beaux Village of Auvillar.

Hold on tight for a fast descent through tunnels and ride past sheer drops of this balcony road constructed through this UNESCO-listed gorge. The imposing moonscape summit of Mont Ventoux can be seen in the distance at the start and towards the end of the ride which finishes in Villes-sur-Auzon.

Situated in the foothills of Mont Ventoux, the road climbs through the spectacular gorge at a gradient of 2-3% clinging to the mountainside. It passes through numerous tunnels cut into the limestone in the cliff face above sheer drops. There is a nice descent to the finish into the pretty village of Monieux.

This ride takes in numerous beautiful ancient French villages, dramatic narrow cliff-lined roads, the banks of the Dordogne and of course the scenic rolling French countryside all under a deep blue sky. This extended version continues from Saint-Denis-les-Martel with a climb out of the Dordogne valley then heads towards the medieval town of Martel, the centre of the walnut trade. Another short climb is followed by a fast 5Km descent to Creysse, the ride ending with views of the Château de Meyronne next to the Dordogne.

Rob Bennett is lucky enough to call Devon, in the South West of the UK, home. Now in his 60s, Rob is a proud grandfather and loves to do a spot of bike touring with his wife Kathryn, in addition to road cycling with his local Plymouth club.
He’s captured a LOT of rides around France and we can’t wait to join him on his bike touring holidays one day.
