Grand Tour Training Camp
with Phil Liggett

OUR ULTIMATE TRAINING CAMP EXPERIENCE

Next January, we’re running the FulGaz Grand Tour. A twenty-one-stage event that pays homage to all three Grand Tours.

To help you prepare for it, we’ve created the FulGaz Grand Tour Training Camp with Phil Liggett. The training camp is a four-week program designed to improve your fitness, technique and mental strength. It will kickstart your fitness heading into 2024 and prepare you for the FulGaz Grand Tour.

Throughout each week, we’re going to be using unique features and content in FulGaz to improve your technique and make you a better bike rider, including sessions written and hosted by Tour de France stage winner Brad McGee, plus “CoachCast” rides with audio tips from experts including Alex Dowsett, Brodie Chapman, Arnaud Manzanini, Sam Bewley and José Been, all hosted by Phil Liggett.

WEEK 1

Week 2

Week 3

Week 4

The opening week of this program is focussed on assessing your current level and laying the foundations for the weeks ahead. Friday is our suggested day off, however, you can move this to suit your schedule.

Each week, for the long ride, we have three choices for you. Piccolo (small), medio (medium) or Grande (long) in reference to the duration. Pick the duration to suit your schedule.

There are only three mandatory sessions this week.

MONDAY - KINGLAKE FTP TEST

It’s important to understand what your current level of fitness is, so we recommend you do this test before you start the program. You can skip this if you’ve done an FTP test recently.

TUESDAY - COACHCAST - COL DE PEYRESOURDE

Sam Bewley and host Phil Liggett give you insights into climbing in general and tips on tackling this iconic climb.

NOTEThis is not a hard day. The ride will play in steady mode, so no matter how hard or easy you ride, it will take the same amount of time. Turn your slope scaling down to around 50% today, so you can ride at an intensity where you are just breathing through your nose. Turn the volume up so you can hear from the experts as you ride.

WEDNESDAY - OMEO 20/40S

OPTIONAL session if you’re coping with the workload. Blocks of repeating 20 seconds hard, 40 seconds easy, which build your FTP and anaerobic capacity. This week, you’re exploring Omeo, in the Victorian High Country, Australia, while you do three blocks of seven efforts.

NOTE – The “on” part of these 20 seconds on, 40 seconds off blocks is on a set gradient, not an ERG mode effort. This means you can push to the level of your ability rather than a set effort. In short-duration efforts like this, the amount of power people can repeat varies enormously depending on their physiology. Start conservatively and build through the session.
