John Bennett’s England + Wales

This week, John Bennett takes us for a spin on a few of his favourite rounds around Wales and England.

You’ll enjoy a mix of bike paths, country lanes, and quaint villages in John’s fifth collection with FulGaz.

You can find these rides under NEW in FulGaz.

COASTAL SNOWDONIA

For most of us, Snowdonia conjures up images of rugged mountains and spectacular gorges. However, there are other, gentler, but no less scenic sides to the National Park, such as this easy ride through coastal dunes on the edge of the Menai Strait. The ride finishes with a spectacular view across the Strait towards Anglesey.

CORFE CASTLE

Starting in the village of Winfrith Newburgh, site of atomic testing in the 50s and 60s, we head down to the Dorset Coast, climbing Dagger’s Gate, before heading onto Whiteways Hill with its gradients briefly exceeding 15%. With panoramic views over the Jurassic coast the ride plunges down to Corfe Castle. Here, we enjoy spectacular views of the ruined fortress, once described as England’s most impregnable before being destroyed in the English Civil War by parliamentarian forces. After a circuit of the town, we head for Studland Beach on the shores of Poole Harbour, the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney.
