Crossing Sastrugi

Antartica

Trails - New - Sightseeing - Easy

NOTE: This ride is locked in Steady mode. Sastrugi are ice formations carved by the prevailing wind, in this case the constant katabatic winds that “fall” off the high Antarctic plateau. For about 40km of my journey my route was perpendicular to the sastrugi and the prevailing winds, making for a very rough ride. I had to constantly weave my way through the field to find a smoother path. This ride is a shorter section over some of the smoother ice and snow.
