Col d'Aspin

Pyrenees, France

New - Mountain

Col d’Aspin is a very frequently used climb in the Tour as it links to very famous climbs in both directions (Tourmalet in the West / Peyresourde in the East). In fact the tour climbed this before the Tourmalet just the day before our ride! Thanks to Mervyn Hiebert’s Fulgaz version I knew this climb well and paced it evenly. The climb starts with an easier stretch before settling into very regular 6-8% slopes. It is also a very popular climb so there are frequent riders to use as a carrot while climbing. Finally, the climb opens up with great views of the valley and neighboring peaks on both sides culminating in a very scenic summit including a view of Pic du Midi above the Tourmalet."
