Col De Spandelles from AG

Pyrenees France

New - Mountain

Col de Spandelles is a hidden gem. The grand tours only recently visited Spandelles in the Tour (‘22 when Pogacar famously crashed on the way down and Vingagaard waited for him) and the Vuelta (‘23). Thanks to Mervyn Hiebert and Fulgaz, we knew about this climb from his excellent video on the quieter, more scenic ascent of Soulor. As the 1st big climb of our trip, we wanted light traffic and access to the better ascent of the Soulor (at the base of the descent from Spandelles). Spandelles delivered despite the clouds with an incredibly peaceful ascent. The climb mixes easier slopes with steeper stretches before a tougher final 3k. Revel in the solitude before the great open view at the top (towards Aubisque and Soulor as the clouds dissipate)!
