Col De Portet

Pyrenees, France

New - Mountain

Col de Portet is a long and tough climb. I’d rate it as the toughest Pyrenees climb I did. The Tour visited in 2018 and 2021 after they paved over the gravel sections in the final 8k (there is still one brief gravel section through a short tunnel). Quintana won in 2018 and Tadej in ‘21. Portet shares its steep and exposed first 8k with Pla D’Adet (where the Tour usually finishes). Whereas Pla D’Adet finishes with a shallower final 3k, Portet still has a tough 9k to go. Knowing this is a long haul, try to enjoy the solitude of the upper half and the company of the numerous cows and sheep!
