Starting in lower Swaledale, climb very gently towards Grinton and then to Reeth where the hard work really starts, bearing right to follow the steeply rolling Arkengarthdale up to the start of The Stang (Official Climbs #57).
Rest your legs and enjoy the scenery and wandering sheep at half-way, but get ready for the long double-barrelled push to the top. When you finally reach the summit, you will cross the county boundary between Richmondshire and County Durham on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
"Is anything ze matter, Mr Bond?"
"Just a slight stiffness coming on".
