The Chilterns Cycleway is a 170 mile/275 Km circular cycle route through the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, taking in the best of the Chilterns scenery. It is signposted for both clockwise and anti-clockwise travel. It passes through Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, taking in some of the best landscapes in these counties and is peppered with many short, sharp climbs typical of the Chilterns, especially in the southwestern half. I have cycled it clockwise, in approximate 16 mile/25 Km sections. Section 11 is the final section, and starts outside Champneys Health Spa near to Tring. There is a long, rolling descent into the Chess valley, then two stiff climbs up Bois Moor Road (12%) and Penfold Lane (9%) before arriving at the Bat and Ball pub in Holmer Green.
