Rigi Loop

Hilly - Loop

Starting and ending right next to the Zuger Lake, this stunning anti-clockwise loop takes us on a gentle ride around Mount Rigi, also known as ‘Queen of the Mountains’ with an esteemed history, including having been visited by Queen Victoria of England in 1868, and being the home of Europe's first mountain railway, opened in 1871. On our ride we are staying well planted at the foothills of Mount Rigi, riding along three Lakes – the Zuger Laker, Lake Lucerne (aka. Vierwaldstättersee) and the smaller Lauerzer Lake. Starting out, we first pass Immensee and through the historic town of Küssnacht am Rigi, before the view opens up with Lake Lucerne ahead, and the city of Lucerne visible nestled against the mighty Pilatus mountain, its peak shrouded in clouds. As we get into the tourist towns of Weggis, Vitznau and Gersau, we ride right next to the lake, with views onto steep shores and mountains such as the Bürgenstock. We eventually reach the town of Brunnen and move inland to connect with Lake Lauerz, with views on the sharp twin peaks of the two Mythen mountains. From here we tackle the most significant hill of the ride before we descend through Goldau and Arth and return back to our starting location.
