This week’s rides take us into the heart of Massachusetts.

FulGaz contributor, Scott Mandel takes us through some unique tracks that provide some excellent training loops for local riders. These rides are a mix of street riding and some more popular bike paths around the famous Blue Hills Reservation.

If you are looking for a recovery based ride, these two new routes from Scott are excellent…That said, you could very easily turn these rides into a flat out effort, the decision is yours!

BHQ Loop

Starting on a popular new bike path in Milton leading to Mattapan, this mainly side street route runs up Brush Hill Road, through the Blue Hills and over Chickatawbut Hill into Quincy before looping around to come back towards Milton up Adams St Hill, showcasing the rolling hills typical of the area with some big enough to be challenging.

Blue Hills Loop

The Blue Hills just south of Boston are a popular spot for local riders. The seven mile loop around the Milton is a magnet for local road warriors to do clockwise laps and get in some miles after work and on the weekends.

It’s popularity stems from the dedicated bike lane and minimal traffic with only few stop signs and traffic lights. Add into the mix New England’s typical undulating terrain with some hills big enough to get your attention and the heart pumping.

This ride features a lead-in from the Blue Hills Parkway straight down to the loop and then back up the Blue Hills Parkway again.
