Garmin devices connect using the ANT+ Protocol, mobile devices use bluetooth. Whilst these two protocols communicate on the same frequency, they will not talk to each other. No matter what you try, no app on your iPhone or iPad will see your Garmin sensors or Garmin head unit. Depending on the equipment you have, there are solutions. I’ve outlined some popular scenarios below. One thing worth noting is if you decide to get an ANT+ “Dongle” Do not buy the Garmin one. Despite looking like the obvious choice, it only works with Garmin apps.

I have a Tacx smart trainer and I want heart rate
You’re already getting power and cadence, so for heart rate, one of the new dual band heart rate straps would be the way to go. It will be cheaper and more convenient to get one of the new dual band ANT+ / bluetooth heart rate straps rather than an ANT+ Key etc. (We do not currently support the Tacx heart rate strap) This way you can still charge your iPhone / iPad or plug it in to a TV. We recommend the Wahoo Tickr heart rate strap. It will work with FulGaz and other apps indoors, and work with you Garmin too.

I have a Wahoo KICKR and want to see heart rate
You’re already getting power from your KICKR and cadence from an RPM pod, so for heart rate, one of the new dual band heart rate straps would be the way to go. It will be cheaper and more convenient to get one of the new dual band ANT+ / bluetooth heart rate straps rather than an ANT+ Key etc. This way you can still charge your iPhone / iPad or plug it in to a TV. We recommend the Wahoo Tickr heart rate strap. It will work with FulGaz and other apps indoors, and work with you Garmin too.

I have a Wahoo KICKR and want to see heart rate and cadence
You’re already getting power from your KICKR, so for heart rate and cadence we recommend the Wahoo Tickr X heart rate strap, this will give you heart rate and cadence in FulGaz and other apps, plus connect to your Garmin. It will be cheaper and more convenient than an ANT+ Key and lightening to 30 pin adaptor. This way you can still charge your iPhone / iPad or plug it in to a TV.

I have a smart trainer that works with FulGaz and I do not want to buy any new equipment
Most smart trainers will happily connect to a Garmin via ANT+ while communicating with FulGaz over bluetooth. to do this, set up a new bike in your Garmin Head unit, select power meter, and connect your smart trainer. You can then see and record your Heart Rate, Cadence and power on your Garmin while using FulGaz.

I do not have a smart trainer, I have an ANT+ Power Meter
In this scenario you will definitely need to connect via ANT+ FulGaz will then read the power from your power meter and convert that to your “real world” speed. most power meters will also send a cadence signal and if you have a heart rate strap that will work too. You will need a Wahoo ANT+ Key, and unless your iPhone or iPad had an old 30 pin connector in the bottom, a lightening to 30 pin adaptor.

I do not have a smart trainer, I have Garmin sensors on my bike
In this scenario you can either connect via ANT+, or if you want to connect for the lowest possible cost and you don’t need heart rate, a bluetooth speed / cadence sensor for the back wheel would be ideal. You can either use the official Wahoo one, or there are now plenty of cheaper ones on eBay and other sites. Most of which look strangely identical except for the branding.

I do not have an old trainer and no Garmin sensors
If you want to connect for the lowest possible cost and you don’t need heart rate, a bluetooth speed / cadence sensor for the back wheel would be ideal. You can either use the official Wahoo one, or there are now plenty of cheaper ones on eBay and other sites. Most of which look strangely identical except for the branding.

I have a Bkool or Elite smart Trainer
You will soon be able to connect to any ANT+ FE-C controlled trainer. You will need an ANT+ key to do this. We will make an announcement when this update is ready.

I have a Wattbike
Full Wattbike connectivity is being discussed at the moment. for existing models with the larger head unit, some of them will transmit power and cadence to FulGaz via ANT+ This is not officially supported by Wattbike.

I have a Kurt trainer
FulGaz currently works with the original inRide sensor. We are working on compatibility with the new inRide and the amazing new Kurt Smart Trainer unit. If you have a Kurt trainer and a rear wheel speed sensor, you can use that sensor to drive FulGaz. We have the “virtual power” profile for Kurt trainers to do this

I have a Computrainer
Sorry, we do not connect to the Computrainer and have no plans to do so.
